If you travel for business, then you must ensure that your company takes out adequate and even generous business health insurance which covers you for anything that might go wrong.
Most firms with travelling staff have a comprehensive policy which covers all staff when out of the office, but it pays to check exactly what is covered, especially if you are going to some of what is regarded as riskier countries.
At the most extreme I have had colleagues who have had to be airlifted out of certain countries when troubles broke out there and have myself been caught up in some situations that I would rather not have been in – luckily I did not have to claim on insurance but you have to make sure that you are covered for anything.
While most of us do not need to claim on insurance for such extreme events, make sure that you are covered for those events which often happen and catch us out of pocket: such as the hotel losing your dry cleaning or having to buy a new wardrobe when the airline loses your suitcase and you have to look good for an important meeting.
Above all, make sure that there is good medical insurance should you fall sick during your travel as the local hospitals are not always the best.
