The beauty of many types of freelance work, such as writing, is that you can work from home and wherever in the world you are. As long as you have access to a computer you can work and this suits many types of people such as mums, those who live in remote areas or people who have second homes.
Another benefit is that your client base can also be anywhere in the world – you could be working for East Texas Insurance Companies one day, and Australian travel agencies the next. There are few country limits on where you can or cannot work which is extremely liberating.
All in all it is a very flexible lifestyle and you can work as few or as many hours as you want to or work at different times of the day – as long as you meet the deadlines.
The downsides are that this very globalisation brings increased competition from other countries. Plus of course you have to be very motivated to work from home. It is easy to be distracted or start surfing the internet when working alone, even when deadlines are looming. It can also be a very lonely job which puts many people off.
So there are advantages and disadvantages of working from home but for those which find it fits in with their chosen lifestyle it can be a great job.
